of teachers polled believe that addressing child hunger should be a national priority.

63 percent

of teachers report buying food for the classroom each month with their own money.

More than 3/4

of teachers respond to hunger in the classroom by helping students sign up for free or reduced price meals.

2 out of 3

teachers feel that more students are taking advantage of free or reduced price school meals than in years past.

The majority

of teachers (57%) favor an in-classroom breakfast program.

Our Findings

Every day across America, teachers see the unfortunate effects of childhood hunger. Through Hunger in America’s Classrooms: Share Our Strength’s Teachers Report, we are sharing their unique perspective on this often invisible American crisis along with a formal national survey of teachers and their experience with hunger, conducted by Lake Research Partners.
