Dick Brennan to Receive 1st Share Our Strength Fleur De Lis Award at New Orleans Taste of the Nation July 15th

Award, presented by Chef Paul Prudhomme, honors Brennan's contribution to the hospitality and culture of New Orleans.

Washington, July 10, 2007 - The Brennan family is synonymous with New Orleans. And not just its food and hospitality, but the city’s rich and enduring culture as well. In honor of Dick Brennan’s long-standing support of New Orleans and his enduring efforts in the fight to end childhood hunger, Share Our Strength will bestow upon him the first ever Share Our Strength Fleur de Lis award as part of its 16th Annual Taste of the Nation® fundraising event, Sunday, July 15. Fittingly, the event will be held at Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House where Chef Paul Prudhomme will present the award, designed by Share Our Strength partner Fortessa.

“We’re so pleased to be presenting this well-deserved award to Dick,” says Billy Shore, Executive Director of Share Our Strength. “He is a shining example to us all of the kind of dedication and perseverance that is needed in the Gulf to help get it back on its feet. For as long as it takes, we will be in the Gulf working with Dick and others like him to ensure that those who need it get the help they deserve.”

This year, Taste of the Nation-New Orleans will follow a Jazz Brunch theme, and is being co-hosted by Chef Frank Brigtsen and Poppy Tooker. Participating chefs will each prepare one of the brunch’s six courses, including such dishes as Gumbo Z’Herbes from Chef Leah Chase of Dooky Chase, Lake Pontchartrain Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with Pearl River Honey Mustard Sauce from Chef Gregg Collier of Redfish Grill, and White Chocolate & Cherry Vanilla Creme Brulee from Chef Frank Brigtsen of Brigtsen’s Restaurants (see full menu, attached). A lively live auction will follow.

Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation-New Orleans is sponsored this year by American Express, Sysco , Food Network, Finlandia, S.Pellegrino and Dickie Brennan’s Bourbon House. One hundred percent of ticket sales benefit programs in the New Orleans area that are working to end childhood hunger as they work to rebuild this great city.
