Our Grant Recipients
Local grant recipients receive 70% of the funds raised through the Taste of the Nation Portsmouth:
- Footprints Food Pantry is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. Their mission is to make sure that everything humanly possible is done to help provide food for the needy in Southern Maine.
- The Seacoast Family Food Pantry strives to fulfill the needs of low-income individuals with food, personal care products, and education for healthy living. They provide these services on both an emergent and on-going basis, respecting the dignity of each individual.
- Rockingham Community Action’s WIC (Women, Infants & Children) program provides nutritious food, education and health care services for pregnant women, nursing mothers, infants and children up to age 5— including coupons for fresh fruits and vegetables from Farmer’s Markets.
- Strafford County Community Action provides assistance to meet immediate and long-term needs for low-income households, including food pantries, and other safety nets for families in emergency situations.
- Food Solutions New England (FSNE) is a University of New Hampshire-based initiative designed to promote food systems that support sustainable farm and food enterprises and sound nutrition in New England communities. FSNE promotes comprehensive, systemic approaches linking farm, food, nutrition, and social justice issues using analysis and visualization to help improve the integrity and viability of the regional food system.
Our state recipients share 10% of the funds raised from the Taste of the Nation Portsmouth, and 10% from the Manchester Taste of the Nation:
- Children’s Alliance of New Hampshire is a statewide advocacy organization for children that addresses problems associated with child poverty through research, education, outreach and lobbying.
- NH Farm to School (NHFTS) is a statewide program working to connect NH farms and schools. Farm to school connections enable schools to serve healthy, locally grown foods in their cafeterias, integrate farms, food, and nutrition into their curriculum, and explore food and agriculture-based learning opportunities.
- The mission of the New Hampshire Food Bank is to feed hungry people state-wide by effectively distributing grocery products, perishable foods, and services through a statewide network of approved hunger-relief agencies. The New Hampshire Food Bank also supports programs, advocating for systemic change and educating the public about strategic solutions to the problems of hunger and poverty.
The remaining funds are split between international anti-hunger organizations like Grassroots International, Oxfam America, ACCION International, The Lambi Fund of Haiti, Los Ninos, Bread for the World, SHARE Foundation: Building a New El Salvador Today, Ashoka, International Development Exchange and Global Food Bank Network— and Share Our Strength’s national strategy to fight childhood hunger.
Share Our Strength Seacoast also hosts the annual Share Your Love dinner, which to-date has provided $50,000 in direct funding to bring Operation Frontline nutrition education classes to families right here on the Seacoast of New Hampshire.
