Christian Community Action Christian Community Action (CCA) is a not-for-profit ecumenical social service organization that expresses faithful witness through providing emergency food, housing and support to those who are poor in New Haven, encouraging their efforts to attain self-sufficiency and working to change systems that perpetuate poverty and injustice. CCA seeks to encourage these families and individuals in their efforts to attain economic self sufficiency and financial independence and to work with them to change systems that perpetuate unemployment / underemployment, homelessness, hunger, poverty and injustice and to promote community building and social change. City Seed CitySeed's mission is to engage the community in growing an equitable, local food system that promotes economic development, community development and sustainable agriculture. CitySeed realizes this mission through the management of City Farmers' Markets across New Haven in Wooster Square (one of USA TODAY's "10 great markets to cultivate organic farmers"), Edgewood Park, Downtown, and Fair Haven plus a bilingual community cookbook project that will provide recipes using fresh vegetables and fruits like those sold at the markets. Connecticut Food Bank Connecticut Food Bank, a private and nonprofit organization which was founded in 1982, works to alleviate hunger by supplying food and resources to 650 food-assistance programs in six of Connecticut's eight counties: Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, and Windham. Connecticut Food Bank distributes food to programs, such as soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries, and adult and child day care centers. Connecticut Food Bank works with corporations, community organizations, and individuals to solicit, transport, warehouse and distribute donated food. By soliciting the food industry for products that will not sell -- items that are wholesome but might have some cosmetic flaw -- Connecticut Food Bank reduces waste and feeds people. End Hunger Connecticut End Hunger Connecticut's mission is to eliminate hunger in the state through legislative and administrative advocacy, outreach, and public education. EHC! is a member organization open to all who are committed in working to find solutions to end hunger, and focuses advocacy and education around several of the federal food assistance programs, which include: Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP); Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP0 - formerly the Food Stamp Program; National School Lunch Program; School Breakfast Program (SBP); Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC); The Nutrition Program for the Elderly; and the Summer Food Service Program.
