All summer long, Share Our Strength has been connecting kids with the food they need to grow and thrive. We wanted to share with you one smiling face of a child who is benefiting from this work. She attends the summer meals program at the San Carlos Community Center in the Rio Grande Valley, where team members serve breakfast and lunch to 100 kids every day.

Okay, okay, I’ll say it – the people in Texas are pretty amazing. After seeing some of the outstanding efforts of CitySquare and the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) –I’m thoroughly impressed and humbled by the exemplary efforts of these great organizations based in Dallas.

Texas is ranked fifth in the nation, but not for BBQ, rodeos or scenic views. Sadly, Texas is ranked fifth in the nation for child food insecurity, which meals more than 1.8 million children in the state are at risk of hunger
