Chefs are the backbone of so much of the work we do. Whether it’s culinary events that raise critical funds, our nutrition education programs that teach low-income families how to shop and eat on a budget, or even lobbying on Capitol Hill on behalf of hungry kids, chefs are some of our most dedicated volunteers and advocates.

For the past 10 weeks I have been working as the Research and Evaluation Intern for Share our Strength’s Cooking Matters Program. Over the course of my internship, I have been researching best practices when it comes to educating low-income adults on healthy cooking and eating. So, when I was asked if I wanted to sit in on a Cooking Matters class, I jumped at the opportunity.

When I became a Cooking Matters coordinator I only wanted to teach adult classes because I thought that those classes would have the biggest impact in the community. I ended up having class after class of children and was surprised to see the results!

I’ll be the first to admit it: I’m a food geek. Not just a foodie, not just an enthusiast but an all-out food geekette. I’m *that* person who will make you wait to eat your food while I take pictures on my iPhone AND Canon EOS Rebel XS and upload everything to Instagram and Tumblr. Yes, the food is getting cold but I have pictures!
