Remembering a Hunger Champion

Share Our Strength has lost an old friend whom we will miss dearly.
We were deeply saddened to learn that Steve Brady, President of the Sodexo Foundation and Senior Vice President of Communications for Sodexo, died on Saturday, March 5.
Steve was a tireless advocate for fighting hunger in the United States and worldwide. He leaves behind a tremendous legacy: Sodexo’s STOP Hunger initiatives are operating in 39 countries on 6 continents.
Steve served on countless task forces and committees with Share Our Strength, and was among the first people to invest in our strategy to end childhood hunger in America. The investments that he made in our work through the Sodexo Foundation have resulted in thousands more children in D.C., Maryland and beyond being surrounded by nutritious food.
Here’s what Steve said in a recent interview with The Washington Post about why Sodexo invests in efforts to end hunger:
“The foundation is separate from the company but we have a very business-oriented mindset. That idea of giving money and saying ‘do some good’ doesn’t cut it anymore. I think more and more organizations are looking to see what is actually going to be accomplished by this [investment].”
Steve and Sodexo’s dedication to supporting effective and high impact-driven organizations has been critical to the success of all the organizations they’ve supported over the years. We are humbled by the confidence he had in Share Our Strength and recommit ourselves to carry on his work.
On behalf of everyone who has been touched by Share Our Strength’s partnership with Sodexo, I extend my sympathies to Steve’s family and to his colleagues and friends at Sodexo.
