A Real Holiday Feast

Michael Szuberla, the brains and heart behind Toledo GROWS, once asked a bunch of the kids he works with in the edible community gardens what they typically eat for Thanksgiving or Christmas meals. He was met with blank stares and mumbled responses. Their depressing answers spurred immediate action - the type of response we should look to as a sign of innovative and inspired leadership.
And now only a few months later the kids working at the gardens around Toledo are learning how to raise their own turkeys! This holiday season, Michael already has plans for Toledo GROWS to host a huge community feast where the kids will be able to invite their families to have a real holiday meal. The best part is they’ll be able to boast to their moms and dads and friends that the meal they are enjoying together is all a result of their very own hard work raising the entree!
